The TGIF Net is all about celebrating the end of the workweek with zero pretension. Here's how a typical Friday night rolls on Talkgroup 931:
Check-Ins & The Goofy Roundtable
First, we take check-ins (just your call sign phonetically and your first name). Then we go down the list with a curveball Friday night icebreaker—anything from what's on your dinner plate or in your glass, to whether you remembered your meds today, or the weirdest thing you saw all week.
The Convening of Ham Court
Chief Justice KQ3Y bangs his ink-pen gavel and swears in every checked-in station as the Impartial Jury. Our weekly Prosecutor puts an annoying radio habit or everyday pet peeve on trial, and the Jury votes GUILTY or NOT GUILTY!
Leaderboard & Post-Net Hangout
Before closing the net, we update the live Prosecutor Leaderboard to see who holds the top conviction record. Afterward, the conversation continues in the #tgif-net channel on the CATS Slack (and occasional post-net video hangouts)!

How to Connect to Talkgroup 931
We meet on the TGIF DMR Network on Talkgroup 931. Here is how to tune in from your hotspot, transceiver, or software client:
MMDVM / ZumSpot / SkyBridge
- In your DMR Master / DMRGateway settings, enable or select the TGIF Network (
tgif.network). - Program a channel on your DMR radio with Talkgroup 931 (Group Call).
- Key up briefly on TG 931 to dynamically link your hotspot!
SharkRF & Mobile Clients
- OpenSpot: Use the Homebrew/MMDVM connector pointed to
tgif.networkand transmit on TG 931. - DroidStar / DudeStar: Choose mode DMR, host TGIF, and enter
931as the Talkgroup ID.
Friday Night Net Tips
- Directed Net: Direct all traffic through Net Control (KQ3Y).
- Leave a Pause: Wait 2–3 seconds between transmissions so the network resets and breaking stations can call in.
- Join the Slack: Hop into #tgif-net on the CATS Slack to submit Ham Court cases or volunteer as Prosecutor!
